What reason must an employer have before an employee is fired?

Generally, an employer may fire an employee for any reason. There are some exceptions: an employer cannot fire an employee because of that employee's race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, or age, or because that employee reported a violation of law committed by the employer. There are other exceptions to the general rule, and you should contact us to determine if your situation comes under one of these exceptions.

Am I entitled to overtime if I work more than forty hours in a week?

The rules regarding the employees who are entitled to receive overtime pay-one and one-half times their ordinary rate of pay, for any time worked over forty hours in one week-have undergone substantial changes recently. If you have questions about your eligibility for overtime, contact us for a review of your situation.

If you have any questions, or to make an appointment to speak with one of our skilled, knowledgeable and experienced employment law attorneys, please do not hesitate to contact one of our Metro Detroit and Southwestern Michigan area offices.  If you prefer, you may e-mail us, or fill out the form on the Contact Us page of this website and a representative from our firm will be in touch with you as soon as possible.  We look forward to hearing from you!
